Dump Truck Driver Killed In 3-Truck Crash That Closed Trenton Highway (Updated)

A dump truck driver was killed in a chain reaction crash Wednesday, Jan. 3, authorities said.

The crash involving three dump trucks closed all lanes of a major Trenton roadway, Trenton police said.

Route 129 was closed in both directions at about 12:15 p.m., according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Trenton Police, Trenton Fire, and Trenton Emergency Medical Services all responded.

Three dump trucks were involved in the crash and the drivers of each truck were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, police said.

Two of the drivers were treated for minor injuries and one driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

The closure ran from Route 650 (Lalor Street) in Hamilton Township to Case Street in Trenton, 511nj.org reported.

The highway was expected to be closed for several more hours, police said.

The investigation is being conducted by Trenton Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Unit.
